SHILLONG, April 28: A day after the All India Congress Committee suspended the five MLAs for anti-party activities, Process T Sawkmie on Thursday announced that he will be contesting the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls from the United Democratic Party, asserting that all hurdles have now been cleared.
“I think everyone must be aware that I will join UDP. It is just a matter of time before I officially join the UDP,” Sawkmie said.
Asked to react on the suspension order of the AICC, Sawkmie said he had nothing to say.
To a query on whether he has received any official communication from the AICC, the Mawlai MLA said it did not matter to him since he had already made up his mind to join the UDP. “It would have been a different case had I chosen to remain with the Congress,” Sawkmie said.
He pointed out that following their suspension, the five MLAs got engaged with the issues in their respective constituencies and preparations for next year’s elections.
“You must have noticed that none of us reacted to the statements made by MPCC chief Vincent H Pala against us,” Sawkmie said.
