MCCL staff threaten stir

SHILLONG, May 10: The employees of the Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) under the umbrella of Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Union (MCCEU) have threatened to launch fresh agitation if the state government fails to fulfill their demands which include regular salary to employees until the factory begins normal function and payment of arrears of the employees.
In a letter addressed to the managing director of the MCCL on Tuesday, the MCCEU general secretary, Pynskhem Lyngdoh, said that the Union will be forced to take the course of agitation if their demands are not met.
According to Lyngdoh, steps should be taken for speedy and normal functioning of the plant.
He also said that the Virtual Retirement Scheme (VRS) or golden handshake scheme must be allowed for employees who are willing to opt for the scheme as in previous years.
The resolution to issue this ultimatum to the state government was taken during a meeting of the General Council Committee and general meeting of the employees which was held in April 29 and May 9 respectively.
