SHILLONG, May 11: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said the government will examine the growing demand for repeal of the Meghalaya State Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021.
Reacting to the demand for nullification of the Meghalaya Gaming Commission under the chairmanship of a retired judge of the Allahabad High Court, Tynsong said the Taxation department can take a call on the appointment of the chairperson of the Gaming Commission.
“The Meghalaya State Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021 empowers the concerned department to take a call on the formation of a commission. Therefore, the appointment is according to the Act and Rules,” Tynsong said, justifying the appointment of the commission.
The deputy CM also brushed aside allegations leveled by its partner in the MDA coalition – the UDP – that the NPP was using state revenue to strengthen its base in other states of the Northeast.
“This kind of comments is common since this is an election year. How can we use state resources to invest in other states? This allegation is totally unconstitutional,” Tynsong said.
The NPP leader refused to accept that the UDP had made this statement during a public meeting recently and justified that it could have been a slip of tongue and they actually did not mean it.
“All the allies in the MDA Government are intact. We respect each other. We will not give any room for blame game even in the future,” Tynsong said.
