SHILLONG, May 15: Operation Clean-Up (OCU), which has been working to clean up rivers in and around Shillong and to make the environment greener by planting and nurturing trees within the city and beyond, will be convening a meeting at City Hut Dhaba at 6 pm on Wednesday. Co-convenor of the OCU, Jiwat Vaswani of the Jiva Hospitality group, has invited all concerned individuals and groups who wish to join hands with OCU to attend the meeting so that the strength of the group is reinforced and there is a better outreach in the river cleaning and environmental conservation programme.
In the past, several groups have joined the cleaning drive and have reported regularly for each cleaning drive. Others, however, have not been very regular.
The objective is to formalise the group so as to ensure that the cleaning drive is regularly taken up to bring the desired impact. It was informed that several groups and individuals have expressed their desire to join OCU.
The meeting aims to allow such groups to join the OCU formally and make it a sustainable venture.
