Proposal for central statute on street vending

SHILLONG, May 18: Proposing to do away with the state enactment, the state government on Wednesday submitted before the High Court of Meghalaya that it intends to follow the central statute pertaining to street vending.
The state also informed the Court that upon the state law being repealed, a set of rules in accordance with the Central statute may be brought into effect immediately.
The matter is before the Cabinet for consideration for an appropriate ordinance to be issued in accordance with law, the counsel appearing for the state submitted.
The court has let the matter stand over for six weeks.
