RESUBELPARA, May 26: Dissension in the ranks of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Mendipathar has begun looming after rumours on AITC MLA from the constituency, Marthon J Sangma, contesting for the 2023 Assembly elections on an NPP ticket have surfaced.
Marthon has recently joined the AITC after leaving the Congress and, as per the dissenters, is currently in talks with the NPP leadership about coming over to the party. The AITC MLA has however denied his involvement, stating it was too early now to speculate on any pertaining to elections.
The dissent in the ranks of the NPP leaders and supporters over the issue of the sitting MLA joining has not been taken well by a section of the supporters who have now asked the CM not to welcome the MLA into NPP for the coming elections.
“We have heard of the merger of Marthon into NPP but none of the original party workers are happy with what is taking place. We are not happy to work with him and are requesting the NPP party president, Conrad Sangma not to issue the ticket to him otherwise there will be three candidates,” stated the dissenting NPP workers and leaders.
Many amongst the group have been unhappy with the fact that it was them who worked to develop the party but were not even consulted during the decision. As per them, their dedication to the development of the party in the constituency seems to have come to nothing for the local leadership.
