SHILLONG, May 27: In order to address traffic congestion in Shillong city, the state government is now looking to introduce electric buses, buses for transportation of students to schools and even SUVs to promote high-end tourism in the state under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP) in the next one-and-half months.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said the government will introduce electric buses for public transportation and normal buses for school service and also devise a formula on how to operate these buses.
He added that the state government will provide around 200 Toyota Innova vehicles to entrepreneurs and tour operators with 50% subsidy from the government to promote high-end tourism.
He mentioned that the projects will be funded by the World Bank.
