Ralf Rangnick set to leave Man United to focus on Austria job
London, May 29: Manchester United have announced on Sunday that former interim manager Ralf Rangnick will not be staying at Old Trafford as a consultant despite his previous agreement with the club. The 63-year-old German Rangnick too has announced that he will not remain at Manchester United as a consultant due to the demands of his new role as Austria manager. Rangnick, who was expected to stay at United for a further two years, confirmed the news in a press conference in Austria on Sunday. “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months. By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not, therefore, be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford,” Manchester United said in a statement. Rangnick was appointed manager of Austria’s national team on April 29 but announced he would still be working at United as a consultant. (IANS)

Indian boxer lifts WBC Australasia Pro title
Sydney, May 29: Indian pro boxer Sabari Jaishankar beat Australian champion Michael Pengue to lift the World Boxing Council’s Australasia Title in the Welterweight division in Sydney. Pengue was the favourite to win the fight and was coming into this event with 2 consecutive wins in his last 2 outings. Pengue had won the WBC Australasia title in December, 2021, by a 10 round points decision over compatriot Jorge Kapeen. On Saturday night, Sabari oozed confidence right from the first bell and was clearly out-punching Pengue in every round. By the eighth round, the Australian was exhausted and was knocked out by Sabari with the clock stopped at 2 minutes and 11 seconds. At the time of stoppage, Sabari, was way ahead on the score-sheet with 2 out of the 3 judges assigned by the World Boxing Council and Australian Boxing commission, assessing in the Indian’s favour. Rudrankksh finishes 7th place at Baku Shooting World Cup
New Delhi, May 29: India’s Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil finished seventh in the men’s 10m air rifle competition at the ISSF Combined World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday. The 18-year-old Junior World Championship silver medallist had made the top eight stage on Saturday, finishing fourth in qualification. Serbia’s Lazar Kovacevic won gold, Croatian Miran Maricic silver and Kazakh Islam Usseinov won bronze. Rudrankksh shot 153.7 in the ranking round to bow out first along with Poland’s Maciej Kowalewicz. Miran topped the round with 261.8 while Lazar was second with 260.9. The final was close affair till the Serb prevailed 16-14 over the Croat. Indian team has fielded a 12-member rifle only squad in this World Cup. (PTI)

Mixed day for Indian team at World Rowing Cup 1
Belgrade (Serbia), May 29: It was a mixed day for Indian rowers at the World Cup 1 here as India A team finished fifth in the semifinals of the Men’s Coxless Fours section while in Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls, the India A team moved to Final B. Overall, three teams moved to Final B (Men’s Coxless Fours, Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls and Men’s Quadruple Sculls) while the other three finished their races with placings and bowed out of the Championships. In the Men’s Coxless Fours semifinal, the India A team of Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar and Ashish finished fifth in semifinal 1 clocking 6:13.06 on the second day of competitions, on Saturday. The team now move to Final B. In Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls, the Indian team of Olympians Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finished fifth in 07:04.44. (IANS)
