SHILLONG, May 29: The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions and Associations (MJCTU&A) has asked the government to initiate measures for attenuation of the effects of inflation.
This was among a series of demands the MJCTU&A has put before the government following its 8th Biennial conference, in the city on Saturday.
According to a statement, the conference was participated by workers and employees from both private and public sectors.
The MJCTU&A, during the conference, passed resolution on various demands for the government.
Some of them include governmental measures to address the issue of inflation, fill-up of all vacant posts in different government departments and public sectors, more public transport in different routes, rates fixation for public transport, including local taxis, in and around Shillong, transportation to and from ISBT, reasonable rates for transport to Guwahati and other places, etc.
During the conference, the attendees paid homage to the migrant workers who died under extreme circumstances during COVID-19-induced nationwide lockdown.
Tributes were also paid to the departed leaders, workers and employees from different sectors, including the leaders and prominent citizens.
“Conference then deliberated on the report of General Secretary which dealt upon current international and national issues that are affecting people’s lives and also discussed on the future tasks of the workers and employees in the context of the current challenges that are mostly thrust upon by the capitalist-friendly central and state governments in this neoliberal era,” the statement said.
Office-bearers were also elected during the conference.
