SHILLONG, June 4: The sight of a group of college students repairing a road in South Tura Constituency has given the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) fuel to come down hard on the government over its alleged disregard when it comes to roads.
Slamming the government over the deplorable condition of the road in South Tura, which is Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma’s constituency, the AITC Meghalaya, on Saturday, said, “The road in question is the district council road that leads up to GHADC. The state of the road was so grave that the students of the Tura Government College took it on themselves to fix it,” the AITC stated.
The AITC Meghalaya had earlier shared a tweet along with a thread of pictures which depicted students in uniform filling the potholes on a road in the constituency.
The tweet read: “This District Council road in CM @SangmaConrad’s constituency leads up to GHADC. It was once damaged. With no help forthcoming, students of Tura Government College repaired it. The situation is grave. But, more worrisome is a government which disregards its people’s concerns!”
The AITC said, “The roads in Garo Hills have time and again been part of a discussion for their poor condition and minimal connectivity. It’s interesting to know that even the chief minister’s constituency roads aren’t taken care of.”
Stating that Conrad Sangma-led government is already engulfed with a series of allegations pertaining to issues like corruption, shoddy construction and unemployment, the opposition party said, “These latest pictures from Garo Hills will make things worse in a poll-bound state, whereas AITC Meghalaya is not missing any opportunity to take on the government just before the 2023 assembly elections here in Meghalaya.”
