SHILLONG, June 4: In an attempt to douse the growing controversy over the functioning of the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong and the recent incident concerning the Director of Health Services (MI), the state government will call both the parties to ascertain the details.
“An incident occurred and we had asked for an explanation. We have received the response and it is under examination. We will look into it and respond accordingly,” Principal Secretary of Health, Sampath Kumar said.
He mentioned that the government will take note of the facts leading to the incident.
“We have to listen to both sides and take appropriate action,” Kumar added.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) has asked the state government to inquire into the case and take action against the Registrar and Director of IIPH for falsely portraying Director of Health Services (MI) Aman War in poor light in the media.
Following the incident, the health department issued a show-cause notice and sought explanation from Dr War on the claimed forceful eviction of students while they were attending classes at the old NIFT campus allegedly without a notice being served to IIPH.
In his response, Dr War asked the authorities to withdraw the show-cause notice issued to him and take necessary action against the persons concerned of IIPH for forcibly occupying the rooms allocated to Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) and for their alleged “unruly and unacceptable” behaviour towards the Project Director and other doctors of MACS.
He also stated that the building at Pasteur Hills, Lawmali, which is under the custody and possession of the Directorate, was never handed over to IIPH and the same is being occupied by the various wings and offices under the department itself.
