SHILLONG, June 19: The State BJP has suffered a minor setback with members of party unit in Qualapatty including the president of West Shillong BJP mandal, Moses Bareh, on Saturday shifting camp to the United Democratic Party (UDP).
The BJP members were formally welcomed into the party by UDP working president and party candidate from West Shillong constituency, Paul Lyngdoh, at a function in Shillong Club.
Extending support to Paul Lyngdoh, Moses Bareh said the constituency requires a candidate Lyngdoh who can speak about the issues afflicting the people on the floor of the assembly.
Meanwhile, the new body of the UDP Qualapaty unit was also constituted with Michael War as president, Embok Pakyntein as working president, Lenmeo Bareh as secretary, Annu Lyngdoh as assistant secretary among others.
It may be noted that West Shillong is likely to witness some heat in the upcoming polls with BJP’s candidate set to be party president, Ernest Mawrie, who will go against the likes of Paul Lyngdoh, former MLA of West Shillong.
