JOWAI, July 3: Meghalaya Police on Sunday arrested two drug dealers and seized 326 grams of heroin from their possession, a police official said.
The drug dealers — Pynhoi Nongtdu and Banteilang Mynson — were arrested by the sleuths of Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) after a hot chase, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said.
Dhanoa said a special naka was put up at Umtyra Checkpoint in East Jaintia Hills district following credible input regarding the transportation of contrabands from Assam’s Silchar side towards the state capital, Shillong.
On seeing the intensive checking of vehicles at the checkpoint, a police official said the duo attempted to move backward to evade arrest. However, the police team gave them a hot chase and captured Nongtdu and Mynsong.
Police also seized two mobile phones and a vehicle bearing Meghalaya registration number ML 05 N 9889 which was used for transporting the heroin.
In another separate incident, Meghalaya police found an abandoned vehicle bearing Assam registration number AS 11 T 1645 under Khliehriat Police Station jurisdiction.
Police seized 13 illegal cigarette cartons from the abandoned and investigation is on to ascertain the occupants and owner of the vehicle. (With inputs from UNI)
