Police arrest man for ‘murder’ in East Khasi Hills

SHILLONG, July 5: The East Khasi Hills Police has zeroed in on the suspected murderer of one Snor Kharkongor (40) of Rasong village whose body was found earlier in a decomposed state in Mawriwar East, Pyngkya village, and arrested him after he confessed to the crime.
Madanrting PS had received information about the body on June 13.
Subsequently, a team, led by Sub Inspector Elias R Marak of Madanrting PS, was dispatched to the place of occurrence, and they then found the body which was in a highly decomposed state.
On June 14, inquest was conducted and the cadaver was sent to NEIGRIHMS for post-mortem.
On June 22, an FIR was filed by the family members of (L) Snor Kharkongor that the deceased was suspected to be murdered.
Accordingly, an investigation was launched and one Weles Umsong, an acquaintance of the deceased who was hiding in Nongwar under Sohra Sub-Division, was arrested.
From his possession, the mobile phone of the deceased was recovered.
Umsong admitted to the murder and strangulating then disposing of the body in the gorge.
He will be produced in court for police remand.
