SHILLONG, July 15: There seems to be no end to the problems faced by passengers at the Shillong Airport at Umroi due to arbitrary cancellation or delay of flights.
Passengers lament that if their flight gets cancelled or delayed, they find it difficult to return to the city since prepaid taxi service is yet to be introduced.
Others have complained that in the absence of eateries at the airport they have to go without food in case of delays since food is available only at Umroi or the roadside stalls on the Shillong Bypass.
Authorities of the Shillong Airport explained that whenever a flight is delayed or cancelled, it is due to the weather only.
The authorities also said the introduction of prepaid taxi services has been delayed since  January because the Transport department is yet to finalise the fares.
As of now, a bus run by the MTC drops passengers at the airport in the morning and returns with another set of passengers in the evening.
As far as eateries are concerned, the authorities said there are two shops inside the airport terminal – one in the security hold-up area and another is in front of the terminal.
It is learnt that the Airports Authority of India had floated tenders on two occasions to open shops outside the airport but the bidding process was not successful.
