MGU’s founder chancellor meets President Murmu
SHILLONG, July 27: Founder Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Meghalaya, Dr Rajan Chopra, called on President of India Droupadi Murmu to extend his wishes on her victory in the recently held Presidential election. Murmu, who is the 15th President of India, is the first President to be born in independent India and the youngest to occupy the post. She is also the second woman and the first tribal woman to secure the highest constitutional post. “We are highly admired by her journey and are determined to continue in our efforts to make a difference in the lives of people and students who reach out to us with a vision of a better and brighter future for the students offering them the opportunities to aim and achieve big in life,” a statement issued here said.
Plea for GH road repair
TURA, July 27: The pathetic condition of road from Warimagre to Nengmandalgre in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, was on Wednesday raised with PWD Minister Prestone Tynsong. A complaint to Tynsong was made through East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner by one Memuth Ch Marak. In the complaint, Marak alleged that the road in question has not been repaired since 2012 and continues to remain in a dilapidated condition. Pointing out that the road connects directly to Williamnagar town, he urged the minister to ensure that the road is repaired at the earliest.
Hek calls on Mayor of Hounslow
SHILLONG, July 27: BJP MLA AL Hek on Wednesday met the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Raghwinder Siddhu, at the latter’s office in London. During the meeting, Hek held discussions on Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), which had immensely benefited the people of Meghalaya, particularly amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and on Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana. They also held discussions on environmental concerns, function and revenue of the state, et al.
