More dists join Power @2047 celebrations

NONGPOH/TURA/ MAWKYRWAT, July 27: More districts in Meghalaya on Wednesday joined the nationwide celebrations of ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’, to showcase the achievements of the state in particular and the country in general in the power and renewable energy sectors.
In Ri-Bhoi, a similar programme was organised and was attended by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem as the chief guest.
The MLA, in his address, touched upon various development schemes of the Centre and said that one should take pride in India’s glorious history and rich culture.
Ri-Bhoi Additional Deputy Commissioner MB Tonjper, while addressing the gathering as the guest of honour, advocated the use of judicious use of electricity.
Others who were part of the programme include officials from NEEPCO, Power department and district administration, and Rangbah Shnongs and villagers.
Other highlights of the programme include theatrical and dance performances, screening of short films on the power sector.
In North Garo Hills, a similar programme was organised to highlight the achievements of power sector, at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner RP Marak, who lauded the efforts of the officials and staff of Power department in ensuring constant supply of electricity. “The employees of Power department often have to wade through cut-off roads to restore disrupted power connection caused due to various calamities and therefore it was a befitting day to acknowledge their contribution in ensuring the regular flow of electricity,” he added.
In East Garo Hills, the ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’ was organised by the MePDCL in collaboration with NEEPCO and the East Garo Hills district administration.
The programme was attended by local MLA Marcuise N Marak as the chief guest, who spoke about the importance of power sector and various steps taken by the state government to revamp the same.
Marak, in his address, also exhorted the concerned department to strengthen and streamline their public service delivery mechanism.
In South West Khasi Hills, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with the office of the Executive Engineer, MePDCL, organised a programme as part of the nationwide celebrations, which was attended by Mawkyrwat MDC Carness Sohshang as the chief guest.
In his address, Sohshang asked the concerned department to look into issues, if any, pertaining to power in the district.
Arguing that electricity is now a necessity, he also beseeched the consumers to responsibly pay their power dues on time.
Others who were part of the programme include South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner C Kharkongngor, Executive Engineer MePDCL Mawkyrwat KK Raswai, Deputy General Manager, Power Grid, Shillong P Bhattacharya, et al.
It may be mentioned that Ministry of Power and New & Renewable Energy is celebrating ‘Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047’ initiative of the Government of India under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations from July 25 to July 30 across India in association with all Power CPSEs and State DISCOMs.
The event showcases the achievements in power and renewable energy sectors to the public, both from national and state perspectives, and also the vision of India in these sectors for 2047 when India completes 100 years of Independence.
