SHILLONG, July 27: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said implementation of the National Education Policy will require time, effort and a lot of investment in the education sector.
Addressing the two-day workshop on ‘Translating Vision into Action NEP 2020: An Implementation Perspective’ held at Shillong College here, Sangma said NEP stresses on research, cognitive and critical thinking, vocational training, innovation, entrepreneurship, sports and co-curricular activities which will bring about a paradigm shift in education.
According to him, the NEP must be implemented to the best extent possible. “There is a need to figure out how to make the NEP a success and move it in the right direction,” he said.
“A just transition is a concept that is precisely meant for these kinds of processes where you cannot expect things to happen in a day but there are a few things that we all need to prioritise as a government and as a society to produce better and productive citizens,” he said.
Sangma was confident that the two-day workshop will help in realising the visions and aims of the NEP and prepare a roadmap not only for Shillong College but other colleges also in achieving the goals and principles of the NEP.
Earlier, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said well established colleges can adopt and partner with other colleges in and around Shillong in an effort to mentor them.
The two-day national workshop is being organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Shillong College.
Other present on the occasion included Additional Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and Principal of Shillong College E Kharkongor.
Earlier, the chief minister also inaugurated the new building block, the college auditorium and the lift that have been partially funded under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.
