TURA, July 31: A two-member central team of officials on Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2022 — comprising Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Mercy Epao, and Scientist ‘C’ Central Water & Power Research Station, Pune, VK Shukla — was on a two-day visit to South West Garo Hills for site inspection of Jal Shakt Abhiyan (JSA) projects under the district on Friday and Saturday.
Before leaving for field inspection, the team made a stopover at Ampati Circuit House, where they were received by South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner in-charge, AVD Shira, and officials of the line departments. They also had a brief interaction with the district officials on the purpose of their visit.
The team noted that presence of a number of water bodies, both natural and man-made and a good landscape gave a lot of advantage in water conservation works in the district. They urged upon all the departments to work as a team by leveraging on the rich resources available and tie up with Fishery department to promote pisciculture.
Expressing her contentment over consistency in contribution of shares from Meghalaya government for developmental works, Mercy Epao said she is happy with the departmental works that are being taken up in the district by successfully implementing the schemes that are benefitting the people and serving its purpose.
During her visit, she also interacted with the beneficiaries of Chimite, Nogorpara and Kumligaon villages and advised them to take help from the Ministry of MSME and the line departments to promote tourism around their water bodies.
Encouraging the line departments to continue putting up with the good work, Shukla, during their site visit, provided scientific suggestions and technical insights on his field of expertise.
