ICAR holds awareness on organic farming in NE

SHILLONG, Aug 6: The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming System Research (IIFSR), Modipuram, on Friday organised a webinar-cum-mass awareness campaign on organic farming in Northeast India, in a bid to popularise scientific organic farming among farmers.
According to a statement, over 250 people — farmers, rural youths, researchers, extension workers, staffs of line department and KVKs, research fellows, students and input dealers — attended the programme.
“Lectures on scientific package of practices of organic farming of various crops, role of integrated organic farming system (IOFS) models for food and nutritional security, insect-pest management under organic farming and certification procedures were highlighted by different experts,” the statement said.
The programme concluded with promises from ICAR for technical guidance for promotion of sustainable organic farming in the region.
