Govt sets up isolation unit for monkeypox

SHILLONG, Aug 9: The state government has set up an isolation unit for treatment of monkeypox cases, Health Minister James PK Sangma said on Tuesday. Similar isolation units will be opened in all the districts, he added.
Expressing happiness over the fact that no case of monkeypox has been reported in Meghalaya so far, Sangma said the Health department has been continuously following up on the matter and necessary steps were being taken.
He also said that testing units were being set up in the state for early detection of cases.
Asked if the government would impose restrictions on people coming from outside the state, he replied in the negative, saying there was no need for such restrictions.
The state government has organised orientation programmes in all the districts on monkeypox, he added.
