SHILLONG, Aug 22: An international seminar to commemorate the sesquicentennial birth anniversary of freedom fighter, educationist and saint, Aurobindo Ghose, also known as Sri Aurobindo, was on Monday organised by Women’s College, Shillong in collaboration with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies.
The seminar, thematised on ‘Sri Aurobindo Ghose: Past and Present’, brought forth various aspects of the life and contributions of Sri Aurobindo and the relevance of his ideas in the 21st century.
The seminar was attended by prominent academicians from India and abroad, who spoke about Sri Aurobindo as a nationalist, an internationalist, an educationist and a yoga guru.
Some of the topics discussed in the seminar include ‘Sri Aurobindo’s Philosophy and His View on the Status of the World’, ‘Crisis of Humanist Thought and the Posthuman Imperative of Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Philosophy’, ‘Sri Aurobindo and the Problem of Self-Determination’, ‘Sri Aurobindo on Religious Nationalism and Communal Harmony’, etcetera.
