SHILLONG, Aug 25: Director General (DG) of the National Cadet Crops (NCC), Gurbirpal Singh, who is on a two-day visit to the state to oversee the training activities of NCC, said he is satisfied with the performance of NCC’s North Eastern Region Directorate, particularly Meghalaya.
“I met Education Minister and the current state of NCC in Meghalaya is very nice. We have enrolment from every place for NCC. Standard in the state and standard of training have been very nice,” said Singh, adding that two of companies of NCC have recently been upgraded to battalions.
After the raging pandemic, NCC is in full swing in regard with all physical activities. Talking about the initiatives undertaken by the NCC, he said Punit Sagar Abhiyan is slowly turning into world’s biggest movement to clean water bodies and rid them of plastic waste, while also talking about Seema Darshan, where cadets are taken to border areas and interact with forces.
Cadets in Meghalaya have also been actively participating in Punit Sagar Abhiyan, he said.
Informing that a High Power committee (HPC) has been established to look into the expansion and role of NCC, Singh said as and when the recommendations of the HPC are accepted and direction are given by the Centre, work will accordingly be initiated.
