SHILLONG, Aug 28: The United Democratic Party is determined to cash in on the disgruntlement of the people over a plethora of issues and the failure of the state machinery to address them appropriately.
UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh on Sunday said the support to the government is waning and the national parties are witnessing a downward slide in popularity resulting in the UDP now emerging as a force to be reckoned with in 2023.
“Factors like the downslide of the Congress, the reducing popularity of the NPP, fading away of smaller parties are paving way for the UDP to get the support of the people and emerge stronger,” he added.
He informed that the UDP is also reinventing itself and trying to build up the organisation right from the grassroots level with old and new leaders working in tandem. “I am very certain that the UDP will lead the government in 2023. When the UDP organises meetings in different constituencies we can see the support given by people is overwhelming as huge crowds attend these meetings,” he said. The UDP leader also said that people are joining the party in large numbers. “The UDP needs to come up with a proper roadmap for the state considering the ups and downs we have experienced in the last 50 years. Problems are multiplying and what is important is to provide direction to the state and the people,” he added.
