SHILLONG, Sep 3: “Tirot Sing is a very big name. All of us should know about him,” Union Minister of State for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said on Saturday, as he recalled the contributions of the state’s bravehearts in India’s struggle for freedom.
The Union MoS was addressing a valedictory function of ‘Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng’ (The Roots of Identity) at U Soso Tham auditorium here.
According to a statement, the programme was also attended by MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, among other dignitaries.
Stating that the government’s focus is to educate the youths on the unsung heroes of the Indian Independence Movement, the Union MoS also remembered the contributions of U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma.
Enlightening the gathering about the idea behind Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Meghwal encouraged the youths to continue celebrating Har Ghar Tiranga in the coming years.
He also lauded the efforts of the Shillong Law College and Positive Energy Art Foundation for organising the programme to promote the art and culture of Meghalaya in particular and the Northeast in general.
The Union MoS, during the programme, also sang his own composition of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
He also distributed prizes among the winners of academic competitions held during the festival.
The prize distribution was then followed by a cultural programme during which folk dances of the Northeast were presented.
