SHILLONG, Sep 15: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to indicate the measures to be taken for repairing all the highways which run through the state, particularly since the monsoon rains have damaged most of them.
The direction came after Kynjaimon Amse submitted a petitioner in the court with the grievance that a large section of national Highway 6 which connects the northern part of Assam to the south-eastern part through Meghalaya was in a bad condition, particularly the stretch between Lumshnong and Malidor in East Jaintia Hills.
“Since National Highways Authority of India is represented, such authority should indicate the measures to be taken for repairing all the highways which run through the state, particularly since the monsoon rains damage most of them,” the order said.
The Court also asked the NHAI to indicate a rough time-frame for the repair work, particularly in respect of the stretch of road that the petitioner complained of.
