NGEA submits list of new members for approval by GHADC secretary
Tura, Sep 20: The Non Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) today submitted a list of members that would form the core part of its employees group for approval to the secretary of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for approval. The new team will be led by Brithen Sangma as president and Jill G Momin as secretary. They would be assisted by vice president, Kessar M Sangma and Tengsime D Shira as joint secretary. Other executive members include Sengmilla Momin as accountant, Sengman Sangma as treasurer, Lakhindro Marak as adviser with Augustbell Marak, John D Shira, Sengsrang K Marak, Sweet Marak and Timseng Sangma as members. The term of the members in the present association is for a term of 3 years with effect from Aug 30, 2022.

Awareness on waste management
NONGSTOIN, Sep 20: A one-day awareness programme on ‘Solid Waste Management, Ban on Single-Use Plastic and its ramification’ was held at Market Complex in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, on Tuesday. The programme was organised by the District Swachh Bharat Mission Urban in collaboration with the district administration and Seng Samla New Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills. Speaking on the occasion, resource person and senior Environmental Engineer, State Pollution Control Board, Shillong, WR Kharkrang, highlighted issues relating to proper waste disposal, effective waste management system and use of plastics which are detrimental to the environment. ADC of West Khasi Hills M Diengdoh explained the importance of community participation in segregation of waste, while stressing that it should start from one’s own family. He also stressed on the ill-effects of plastic on the surroundings and the need for coordination by the general public in making the area free of plastics.
