Five get 10 years RI for sexual assault of minor

NONGSTOIN, Sep 29: Five persons — identified as Cleverstrein Marngar, Khwasningstar Shangoi, Proningstar Marngar, Shaitstar Marngar and Basnes Ryntathiang — were convicted on September 23 by the Court of B Laitmon, (MHJS) Special Judge, POCSO, West Khasi Hills District Nongstoin, which has sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 25,000.
The accused were convicted for sexually assaulting a teenage girl of Myriaw village in West Khasi Hills in 2016.
In default of the payment of fine, the accused/convict has to undergo further three months of simple imprisonment, according to the court. They are, however, entitled to the benefit of Section 428 CrPC.
