Excise raid
Excise staff conducted raids in restaurants and stalls in Shillong and its outskirts and detected 12 cases during August this year and seized 51 litres of illicitly distilled liquor and 52.11 litres of IMFL, according to a statement by the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Excise), East Khasi Hills. In this connection, 11 persons have been arrested under Excise Act.

Dry days
The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has declared dry days on October 4 and 5 on account of Dussehra. In this regard, all bonded warehouses, IMFL ‘OFF’ and ‘ON’ shops, canteens, outstills, etc, have been directed to remain shut. A similar order was also issued by South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Excise), declaring dry day on October 5 on account of Dussehra.

Check-up
The Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, will observe the International Day of Older Persons on October 1 at Mawkdok Community Hall. As part of the programme, a free medical camp for senior citizens will also be conducted from 9:30 am to 12 noon.

Cleaning drives
The Shillong Municipal Board will organise a cleaning drive at Police Bazaar, Motphran and GS Road from 7:30 am and a tree plantation at junction near Pahsyntiew parking lot at 1 pm on October 2.
West Jaintia Hills District Administration will conduct a cleaning drive on September 30 at all market areas under Dorbar Chnong Tympang Club, Jowai, including the CNI Market, Sein Raij Market and Jowai Presbyterian (Iaw Chyiap) Market.
