SHILLONG, Sep 30: As decided on Thursday, the state government on Friday handed over the blueprint to the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) detailing the relocation of 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong to the quarters of the Shillong Municipal Board on Bishop Cotton Road.
HPC secretary Gurjit Singh confirmed receipt of the blueprint and said the committee will consult engineers and architects to understand the blueprint in details and once it is clear to them, they will call a meeting of the residents to take a final call.
Singh said the process will begin after the Durga Puja.
Four years after the high-level committee led by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was constituted to examine relevant records and documents relating to the relocation of the colony, the state government has decided to relocate the 342 families to the SMB quarters which will be reconstructed for the purpose.
As per the plan, about 30-40 flats or units will be constructed in 12 new blocks on the SMB premises measuring around 2.5 acres.
The government would have to demolish the existing buildings as they are not strong and reconstruct the dwelling units for which necessary instructions have been issued to the concerned department.
