SHILLONG, Oct 3: Rajya Sabha member Prof Rakesh Sinha has assured the people of Kongthong village, which has been adopted by him, that the gate to enter the village will be inaugurated on November 26 this year.
Speaking at a special programme held as part of the concluding week of Seva Pakhwada (Service Fortnight) to celebrate the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kongthong on Sunday, the MP also informed the gathering that the foundation stone for the road connecting Kongthong to Sder village will also be laid on November 26.
Sunday’s celebration also coincided with Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The programme was organised under the leadership of Sordar of Kongthong village, Teibor Lynrah.
The Rajaya Sabha member in his address also assured that he will earmark Rs 50 lakh for the construction of the school building in the village. He also handed over mementoes to 75 families that have the picture of the PM.
Residents of the village including the children and elderly participated in the programme, which was presided over by the secretary of Raid Kongthong, Stogent Lynrah.
State BJP leader Michael Kharsyntiew donated Rs 1.21 lakh for the development of Kongthong village.
Among the speakers during the programme was a community leader of Kongthong village, Rothell Khongsit.
