SHILLONG, Oct 9: The Shillong Airport authorities have written to the Chief Secretary, DP Wahlang, pitching for bus service between the airport and Shillong city at the earliest.
In addition, the government has been asked to fix the taxi fares from airport to Shillong, Nongpoh etc., to ensure that prepaid taxi services may start from the airport at the earliest.
The letter to the Chief Secretary lamented that there is no transport facility available from the airport to the city and vice versa, even as it pointed out that many air travellers and tourists face problems and complain about the non-availability of transportation services and exorbitant taxi fare to the tune of Rs 3000.
Recalling that Shuttle Bus service was run by Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) between the airport and Shillong in the past, the authorities said bus service is a basic amenity for needy travellers.
“…bus service is the basic amenity for needy air travellers between Airport and Shillong city. Shillong Airport is the face of the state of Meghalaya and its image is much needed to go to the air travellers and tourists,” the letter said.
The Shillong airport is used by around 6,000-8,000 travellers.
