MeECL contractual workers to march to Secretariat on Oct 17

SHILLONG, Oct 10: Contractual workers of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) under the banner of MeECL Progressive Workers’ Union (MePWU) have threatened to take out a protest march to the Main Secretariat on October 17 in protest against the failure of the government to regularise their posts.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, MePWU president Mantiphrang Lyngdoh Kiri said they will not hesitate to take out the protest march if the state government fails to comply with their demand.
“We are compelled to resort to this drastic step since we are left with no option other than pressurising the state government to fulfill our long pending demand. There has been no positive response to our demand till date,” Kiri said.
The MePWU has also decided to continue their lunch-hour dharna in front of the MePDCL office till October 14.
