MAWKYRWAT, Oct 17: National People’s Party (NPP) state president WR Kharlukhi exuded confidence on Monday that the party will get an absolute majority in next year’s Assembly elections in the state and it will not need the support of any other party to form the government.
Speaking at a meeting with the leaders of NPP Mawkyrwat Block in Mawkyrwat, the Rajya Sabha member said according to information that he received, the NPP will get an absolute majority and form the next government on its own.
He was confident the party will win around 20-25 seats in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
On the party’s poll prospect in the Mawkyrwat seat, Kharlukhi said if it works hard, it will win.
“Nothing can prevent you from achieving your dreams if you work hard,” he said.
He reminded the party workers of Adolf Hitler stating the dictator had formed the Nazi in 1919-20 with only seven people, but made the whole world to tremble within a short span of time in 1939.
Mawkyrwat has 62 polling stations and the NPP has formed primary units in 55 of them. Kharlukhi urged party leaders to work hard to be able to form units at all polling stations and win the election.
NPP East Khasi Hills president Jied Kurbah, party’s Mawkyrwat Block chief Ailad Nongrem and Mawkyrwat candidate HS Diengdoh also spoke at the meeting.
