SHILLONG, Oct 21: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Shillong, in a major operation against drug syndicates in Northeast, intercepted a Shillong-bound vehicle at Mawryngkneng on Thursday and confiscated contraband items worth Rs 15.5 crore.
According to a statement, the consignment had come from Manipur and was meant for the Shillong-based drug syndicates.
Two persons, who were travelling in the vehicle, were also arrested.
“Rummaging of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 150 soap cases weighing 2.22 kgs of pinkish powder wrapped in polythene sachets from the possession of the suspects. Tests conducted with the NDPS field test kit confirmed the presence of heroin in the substance recovered,” the statement said.
It was also informed that the seized vehicle had been used for smuggling contraband items in the past too.
It is pertinent to note that in 2022, DRI had confiscated 21,000 kgs of contraband items valued over Rs 65 crore.
