“There is rumour circulating in the social media that one person who was assaulted in the rally organised by FKJGP on October 28 has succumbed to his injuries which is not a fact,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger said, while adding that three persons who had sustained minor injuries were released after first aid.
Police also cautioned the public against spreading rumours.
SAFF condemns violence
The Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) condemned the violence and hostility in society and observed that the recent acts of violence has caused great unease and disquiet among the general population in the city.
“It is true that unemployment continues to be a burden of the youth in the state, but violence is not the answer,” SAFF said in a joint statement issued by its president Rev. P Lyngdoh, vice-president Naba Bhattacharjee and secretary Fr. Richard Majaw.
“SAFF calls on all the citizens to promote peaceful relations which have always been the hallmark of our people in Meghalaya. SAFF also notes with concern the interference of certain individuals from outside the state trying to aggravate the situation with unpleasant comments and advised them to refrain from indulging in such harmful approaches,” the statement added.
