Tree falls down in NH-6; four hurt

NONGPOH, Nov 14: Four workers of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) were injured after a tree fell down on them in National Highway-6, near Umling in Ri-Bhoi on Monday.
The incident also resulted in a brief disruption in the traffic movement.
As per sources, the incident came to pass around 2 pm on Monday when the NHAI workers were on the roadside attending their usual duty.
The injured workers were immediately shifted to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment. However, one of the workers identified as Morningstar Marwein, who sustained severe injuries, was later shifted to Shillong for better treatment.
The debris was later cleared with the help of the NHAI workers, staff of Forest department and Ri-Bhoi Police personnel.
Passersby, who witnessed the incident, have expressed their concern and urged upon the concerned department to take necessary steps to identify and fell trees, which pose threat to the commuters, along the stretch of the National Highway.
