SHILLONG, Nov 16: The construction of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang is set to miss its latest deadline, thanks to the dome fiasco on May 22.
Despite speeding up the work, the MDA Government is unlikely to inaugurate the Assembly building at New Shillong Township before the end of its term in March. As per latest estimates, the project is likely to take at least 6-7 months after the design of the new dome is finalised and vetted.
An official involved with the project said that the procedure for finalisation of the new design for the “lightweight” is under way and once it is approved, it would take around 6-7 months for completion.
The new dome would weigh around 250 to 300 metric tonnes, and the committee directed the design associates to submit the design within a month or 45 days.
The blueprint will be submitted to IIT-Roorkee for scrutiny and the final vetting will be done by IIT-Guwahati after which construction work will begin.
