SHILLONG, Nov 21: A single man reached the gate of Secretariat here on Monday carrying a placard to begin his sit-in demonstration and express dissent against the government for allegedly not recognising young boys and girls who are part of the All Meghalaya Dancer’s Association (AMDA). This man is Kitbok Thabah, who is also the president of AMDA.
Speaking to reporters, Thabah said he had never before taken such a drastic step to agitate with placards near the Secretariat.
According to him, the association has sought the support and recognition from the state government since 2019 but the government till date has not responded.
“I am here to impress upon the state government to fulfill the demands of providing financial assistance to the dancers and to also set up a dance institute,” he said.
Despite achieving laurels at national and international platforms, there has been no support for dancers from the government, he lamented, while adding majority of such dancers come from a weak financial background.
