BJP asks HM to step down

SHILLONG, Nov 28: The Meghalaya BJP has demanded the immediate resignation of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui for failing to discharge his duties.
BJP national general secretary Rituraj Sinha on Monday asked the Home Minister to take some responsibility. “He should resign because he has been unable to discharge his duties,” Sinha said.
The BJP leader questioned the manner the police is being managed in Meghalaya with everything concentrated around Shillong leaving people in the interior areas with virtually no support or protection.
Sinha said a party delegation led by state president Ernest Mawrie will meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday to discuss the Mukroh shooting incident on November 22. The state delegation will prevail upon the Assam CM to take the strongest action against the Assam police personnel responsible for acting out of line by resorting to unprovoked firing.
Sinha said the BJP will write to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding a government job for each of the bereaved family.
Talking about the violence in Shillong, the BJP leader said attacking outsiders and stopping movement of vehicles would not solve the problems.
“Despite being a small ally in the (MDA) coalition we will try our best to convince both the state governments to come together and solve the problems of the people,” he said.
Asked why the BJP was not pulling out of ruling MDA, Sinha said, “In Meghalaya we are a part of the government as part of the MDA but at the same time it is our job as a responsible political party to raise the red flag and our voice when we see something is not happening correctly.”
He recalled that the party MLAs, state president and spokespersons have always raised their voice over any matter concerning the people.
