SHILLONG, Dec 7: The 40th Annual meeting of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences (IAN) on Wednesday kicked off at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, along with a conference and workshops.
Organised by Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU, Shillong, the inaugural programme was attended by NEIGRIHMS Director Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta as the chief guest, NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla as the guest of honour, among various academicians.
During the day, a pre-conference workshop was also held and was attended by students of schools and colleges. “The workshop saw the presentation of lectures by the eminent scientists, doctors, and researchers,” a statement in this regard said.
It may be mentioned that the three-day conference will see the participation of around 450 delegates from different parts of the country and abroad such as the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Europe etc.
During the inaugural function, new IAN fellows were also felicitated.
Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, in his address, spoke at length about the importance of conducting research in the field of neuroscience.
“Neuroscience is a field of study which needs to be explored more in order to understand how the neurons and brain work,” he said, pointing that research on neuroscience can be conducted by sharing the knowledge, findings and ideas for better output.
“He also put forward the idea of engineers and doctors working together to understand various neuro-related diseases which could help in finding the cure and remedies for the diseases and disorders. He mentioned that many a time, people tend to misunderstand the neuro-related diseases and disorders and proper sensitisation and study for the same is much needed,” a statement in this regard said.
