SHILLONG, Dec 8: KHADC Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne on Thursday suggested that the proposed border police outposts should be set up at Umlaper or Ummat and Umtlieh villages in Ri-Bhoi district.
In a letter addressed to Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, the KHADC chief said the traditional heads of Raid Nongtung have urged the state government to set up the outposts at Umlaper or Ummat and at Umtlieh with a strength of at least 50 police personnel equipped with the latest arms and weapons and crowd control equipment to defend the Khasi residents from any aggression from the Assam side.
Chyne said he has received letters from several quarters including the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Area Raid Nongtung, Hima Khyrim, the Dorbar U Syiem and Basan, Raid Nongtung, the office of the Shnad Raid Tyrso, Hima Khyrim Syiemship and even from the office of the Dorbar Raid Thadrang, Khyrim Syiemship, requesting that the police outposts be set up in the identified villages along the interstate border between Meghalaya and Assam.
“I would urge the state government to kindly consider the demands of the traditional institutions of Raid Nongtung and set up the border police outposts in the sensitive areas under Raid Nongtung,” Chyne added.
