NONGSTOIN, Dec 8: The Trinamool Congress, if elected to power next year, will ensure a welfare-centric government in Meghalaya, assured party president Charles Pyngrope during a block-level meeting in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, on Thursday.
Addressing a gathering of party supporters, Pyngrope also appreciated Nongstoin block president Macmillan Kharbani for his endeavours in uplifting the party. “This village has an honest leader with a vision for the future,” Pyngrope remarked.
Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, who was also part of the meeting, contended that Meghalaya TMC is the only party that can take Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) head-on during the Assembly elections.
“We, in the Trinamool Congress, continue to fight against the agenda of the BJP because we have a sense of commitment and a responsibility to fulfil,” the Leader of Opposition said.
He, during his address, also made a mention of the alleged financial irregularities in the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion programme under the state government.
“The initiative of the then government for sustainable living has been completely derailed by the current dispensation; it is being manipulated by the current government,” he said.
Airing concern, Mukul continued, “I have raised it to the government in the Assembly that there is plenty of money to focus on the betterment as well as the implementation of the plan. However, the government has a different agenda of looting the money.”
It may be mentioned that the block-level meeting was attended by over 5,000 supporters of the TMC.
As part of the programme, a party office of the TMC was also inaugurated in Nongstoin.
