SHILLONG, Dec 10: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday said all three organs of the government have been assigned various responsibilities enshrined under the Constitution of India and serve people in a different capacity.
The chief minister said this during a programme for the inauguration of the newly constructed building of the District and Session Court Complex at Ampati in South West Garo Hills.
The new building was inaugurated by the chief minister and Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya Justice Sanjib Banerjee in the presence of MLAs Dikkanchi D Shira and Winnerson D Sangma.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Conrad said the new building will emerge as an institution that will cater to the people of the region.
“People of South West Garo Hills will always remember this important and landmark moment that will provide access to delivery of justice,” the chief minister said.
He added, “Our Constitution has clearly defined responsibilities for different wings, be it Legislature, Executive or Judiciary, and we all are here to serve the people in different capacities. Chief Justice has a different role and responsibility to play, so does the Chief Minister.”
Stating that no system is perfect, the chief minister said that India is a vast country with local and traditional laws in place, and that the Judiciary is working in perfect cohesion with it.
“The Judiciary is now expanding and growing to provide justice to people in all aspects. We hope that the new infrastructure will enable the court to function better and dispose of cases faster,” he added.
Conrad also informed that Law University in Meghalaya will soon come up.
He later inspected the newly constructed building along with Justice Banerjee.
