NONGSTOIN, Dec 15: A two-year-old in West Khasi Hills died on Thursday morning after falling into a water-filled pit.
The incident occurred at Siejlieh village in West Khasi Hills when the deceased, identified as Lennysha Nongkhar, was playing near a pit filled with water, which was constructed by the family on the backside of the house for the purpose of constructing a septic tank.
While the mother of the deceased was indulged in household chores, the father, upon seeing his daughter struggling inside the pit, went to rescue her.
She was then rushed to the Nongstoin Civil Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
An inquest was subsequently conducted and no injury was found on the deceased’s body.
The parents of the deceased, meanwhile, petitioned the hospital authorities for exemption from post-mortem, which was later granted.
