120 kids attend convention for child rights clubs

SHILLONG, Dec 19: The Annual Convention of ‘Child Friendly Shillong’, a project of the Bosco Integrated Development Society (BIDS) to ensure that children are sensitised about their rights, was held at Don Bosco Technical School Hall on Monday.
The convention saw the participation of around 120 children from different child rights cub from the target areas of Child Friendly Shillong.
Children of Lumbatngen from Childline Child Rights Club enthralled the audience with their melodious Christmas songs while those from Child Kingdom Club, Kynjat Phutball, Lumparing, presented a dance item.
An introduction to the work done under Child Friendly Shillong was shared by a member of the project.
Chief guest of the occasion, Director of School Education and Literacy RM Kurbah, in her speech, encouraged children to understand how to become leaders and lead their groups while helping one another in inculcating the virtue of patience.
Child Friendly Shillong in collaboration with Kripa Foundation and the office of the District Child Protection Unit started a campaign from December 5 on the theme ‘Be Brave, be happy, be drug free’, which concluded on Monday.
On the sidelines of the programme, prizes were distributed to winners of the self-composed song competition and poetry writing competition on the theme of the campaign. A short motivational video was also released by the chief guest.
