SHILLONG, Dec 24: The opposition is yet to receive copies of the inquiry report on alleged irregularities in Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), and rice ‘scam’, said Opposition Chief Whip and TMC MLA from Umroi George B Lyngdoh.
The TMC leader recalled that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had assured the opposition on the floor of the House that the probe report will be made available to all the members of the Assembly.
“We have not received any report as yet as promised by the Deputy Chief Minister. None of the assurances given on the floor of the House and the commitment made to the people has been complied and responded to,” said Lyngdoh.
Coming down heavily on the government, he said that there is a continuous shirking of responsibility and false promises being made to the people.
“Even on the floor of the House, they shied away not taking the responsibility. As per the constitutional procedure, they are not sticking to that commitment also on the floor of the House,” he said.
The TMC leader further said, “It is beyond me to have any expectation from the state government considering the fact they have been continuously shying away from the responsibility and responding to the call of the duty”.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had assured to circulate the inquiry reports on the rice ‘scam’ and irregularities in the MeECL to all 60 legislators.
Tynsong had informed that the decision was taken after some of the members had raised the issue during the Autumn Session of the Assembly. The inquiry commission on power, which was headed by Justice (retired) RN Mishra of the Allahabad High Court, submitted its report to the government in March this year.
The committee was assigned to look into records and make recommendations concerning the functioning of the MeECL and its three subsidiary companies – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd.
The probe covered the period from April 1, 2010, to March 31, 2021.
Even the independent probe into the alleged rice scam was submitted to the state government but the findings of the report are yet to be made public.
