MAWKYRWAT, Dec 24: Mawkyrwat, as the headquarter of South West Khasi Hills, is continuing to rise on the development front due to the flowing in of government funds, PHE Minister and local MLA Renikton L Tongkhar said recently.
According to him, Mawkyrwat had received an amount of around Rs 700 crore for developmental activities through different government schemes in the last five years.
“We are very happy that Mawkyrwat as a headquarter and South West Khasi Hills as a district have grown a lot in the health sector in these past five years. Apart from the 100-bed hospital, the Health department had sanctioned 20 other schemes for infrastructures in Mawkyrwat constituency, including building of Rangmaw sub-centre at Rs 53 lakh, Manad sub-centre at Rs 56 lakh, oxygen plant in Mawkyrwat at Rs 25 lakh, Ayush Hospital in Mawkyrwat at Rs 30 lakh and upgrade of sub-centres into Wellness Centres at the cost of Rs 8 lakhs each through NHM and many other schemes. The total amount that Mawkyrwat constituency had received through the Health Department is about Rs 26 crore,” the Mawkyrwat MLA said.
“When we look back at the development of South West Khasi Hills District, especially Mawkyrwat Constituency, I have to say, ‘Mawkyrwat is on the move’. In the last five years, Mawkyrwat, as the district headquarter, has continued to grow in all areas through the schemes implemented by different government departments for development of infrastructures. From the Public Works Department (PWD), we received Rs 300 crore, Public Health Engineering Rs 180 crore, Border Area Rs 12.91 crore, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Rs 12.59 crore, and many other departments and the total amount that Mawkyrwat constituency had received in the last five years is about Rs 700 crore,” Tongkhar said.
The PHE minister also said that Ranikor constituency, under MLA Pius Marwein, has also seen a lot of development.
Tongkhar, to back his statement, cited the example of the two-lane road from Ranikor to Nongjri-Maheshkhola and the availability of motorable roads in every corner of Ranikor.
