SHILLONG, Nov 24: With other states and union territories initiating COVID-19 precautionary measures in the wake of the detection of Omicron sub-variant BF.7, the Meghalaya government has now asked the people who have arrived to the state from outside India to carefully monitor their symptoms for seven days from their time of arrival.
It is pertinent to note that many states and union territories have issued guidelines for international arrivals.
The Centre has also mandated RT-PCR tests for arrivals from China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand. It has also directed all the states and union territories to ensure a functional and regular supply of medical oxygen for management of COVID-19.
While more precautionary measures continue to be announced, Principal Secretary of Health department Sampath Kumar has advised international arrivals to carefully monitor their symptoms for seven days.
In a statement, Kumar said that there has been a recent surge in COVID-19 cases in countries outside India.
“Although there is no reason for any panic but, in view of the festive season, it is advised that the general public may adhere to COVID-appropriate behavior by wearing masks in crowded indoor places and adopt good hand hygiene practices,” he said.
“On any suspicion of COVID-19 symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, they are encouraged to immediately test themselves for COVID-19 in any of the testing facilities across the state,” the principal secretary added.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier reviewed the COVID-19 situation here and assured that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic.
He had also informed that tests were being conducted and the situation was being monitored by the government.
Conrad, however, also advised people to wear masks wherever possible in view of the festive season.
