SHILLONG, Jan 3: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo has summoned a group of citizens that lodged a complaint against Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare for allegedly distributing money in Nongkrem constituency.
Sources on Tuesday said the DC summoned the complainants for recording their statement on Wednesday. The summoning has come at a time when there are fresh allegations against Lamare for trying to lure the voters by distributing blankets.
Three to four trucks of Lamare are allegedly moving daily to various parts of the constituency for distributing the blankets.
According to the sources, these trucks are seen stationed at the Transport Minister’s office in Madanrting every morning.
Lamare, who represents the Mawhati constituency, is planning to contest the upcoming Assembly polls from Nongkrem.
In the complaint lodged with chief electoral officer FR Kharkongor, Lamare was accused of distributing money to the people of Nongkrem constituency.
Trinamool Congress leader Saket Gokhale had earlier sought the status of the inquiry into the allegation of distribution of cash by Lamare. In a petition to the East Khasi Hills DC on Tuesday, he sought the final inquiry report submitted to the state government.
Kharkongor had referred the complaint against Lamare to the DC for necessary action since the model code of conduct is yet to be enforced in the state.
“I have taken cognisance of that complaint. Since right now the model code of conduct has not been enforced, it has been forwarded to the deputy commissioner, who will, in turn, take action as per prevailing rules and laws,” Kharkongor stated.
He said the complaint was filed by a group of citizens.
